Prepare Your App Icon

Both Apple and Google have strict requirements for app icons submitted to their stores. Meeting these requirements upfront avoids delays in your build.

• Format: PNG
• Size: 1024 x 1024 pixels
• Background: Solid color. No transparency
• Corners: Square edges only. Both Apple and Google apply their own corner rounding automatically.

Transparent backgrounds and manually added rounded corners are the two most common reasons icons are rejected. Export as a flat PNG with a solid background color.

What Makes a Good App Icon

Your app icon appears at small sizes across device home screens, the App Store, and search results. It needs to read clearly at every size.

• Keep it simple and bold. The icon must be readable at 64 x 64 pixels or smaller.
• Match your brand. Use your store’s primary color and main visual mark.
• Skip text in the icon. Words and letter combinations become unreadable at small sizes.

You can create your icon in any of these tools:

• Figma: full design control with exact-size export
• Canva: ready-made app icon templates at exactly 1024 x 1024
• Adobe Illustrator: vector-based, ideal if your brand assets are already in Illustrator

Common Mistakes

These are the issues that most often delay builds. Review the list before you export your file.

• Using a transparent background on the app icon: both Apple and Google require a solid background color.
• Submitting a JPG file instead of a PNG: only PNG is accepted.
• Adding rounded corners manually to the icon: the stores apply their own rounding, so manual corners produce a doubled effect.
• Using an image smaller than 1024 x 1024: do not scale up a smaller file; create or export at the correct size.
